Tragedy as three children die in South C apartment fire

The fire, according to witnesses, occurred at around 1:00 am on the first floor of Huda Apartment, a building located along Ole Shapara Road.

A family in South C, Nairobi, is in grief after three young brothers died in a fire that broke out early Thursday morning at a residential apartment.

The fire, according to witnesses, occurred at around 1:00 am on the first floor of Huda Apartment, a building located along Ole Shapara Road.

The fire was contained by emergency responders, including firefighters from the Nairobi County Government, with the help of residents, who managed to stop the blaze from spreading. It, however, caused severe damage.

According to Nairobi police commander George Seda, the siblings, aged between two and five, died as a result of smoke inhalation. “They suffocated,” said Seda.

Seda said two teenage girls were rescued and rushed to the hospital, where they were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Other residents affected by the fire reported minor injuries and property loss.

He said police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire

The commander pledged support and urged residents to be vigilant in their homes to reduce the risk of fire incidents.

The incident adds to a growing number of residential fires reported in Nairobi in recent months.

To stem the fires, city officials are calling for stricter enforcement of building safety regulations and regular inspection of electrical systems in residential areas.

Emergency authorities are, meanwhile, asking the public to report signs of fire hazards to avert tragedies.
